Orbit Micro’s Massive Scalable Storage System solution offers maximum scalability and mission critical redundancy. The MS3 is an Orbit Micro storage solution that uses a combination of Storage Host Controllers and Direct Attached Storage JBOD systems.

Storage Host Controllers (SHC) can be configured with Dual Xeon, Opteron, or single CPU multi-core processors. These
systems can be configured with redundant components, such as hot-swap hard drives, fans, and power supplies for
continuous operation in mission critical environments. SAS RAID Host Bus Adapters allow you to connect up to 128
SAS/SATA II peripheral devices using SAS Expanders and DAS systems. RAID levels supported include 0, 1,1E, 3, 5, 6, 10, 30, 50, 60 or JBOD. Up to four adapters can be installed in one SHC for a total of 512 SAS/SATA II via multiple DAS systems. With 1TB hard drives, one SHC can support up to 512TB of raw storage.

Direct Attached Storage (DAS) JBOD systems are available in 1U, 2U, 3U, and 4U rack form factors. DAS systems house the hard drives that are controlled by the SHC. Some Orbit Micro DAS systems can house up to 48 drives in a 4U space. When daisy-chained with an SHC, this system can be scaled up to accommodate the most voracious storage demands.

The MS3 solution offers greater expansion and easier deployment than traditional storage servers that house all the drives in one case. The traditional storage server can house up to 40-drives and weigh up to 270lb when fully populated. Shipping these behemoths and installing them in a rack can very costly and laborious. Instead, with the MS3 solution the entire storage system is in several different pieces, the SHC and the individual DAS systems. Therefore reducing the cost of shipment and the amount of labor required to mount and install the systems.
